Rev. Brent Sheffer O’Neill is a bi-vocational Pastor and Clinical Social Worker and has served at Calvary since spring 2024.
Brent is passionate about the intersections of theology, trauma, LGBTQ+ affirmation, and justice. In his free time he enjoys hiking with his huskies, and sending & receiving postcards.
Brent earned a Master of Divinity and a Master of Social Work from Boston University, as well as a BA in Biblical and Religious Studies from Messiah College.
He previously ministered in Pike Creek, Middletown, Boston, and St. Louis, and he practiced social work at a psychiatric hospital in Grand Rapids. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Delaware.
He is married to Silas, a seminary student who is discerning a path towards chaplaincy.
He’s extremely grateful for God bringing him to serve at Calvary, where he was baptized as an infant.
Calvary is led by Ruling Elders, elected from our congregation to serve three year terms on Session with our Pastor to discern God's will for our community.
Calvary is cared for by Deacons, elected by our congregation to serve three year terms in the ministry of compassion.
Calvary is a member of New Castle Presbytery, connecting us to 48 nearby Presbyterian faith communities who we collaborate with regularly.
In 2025 Calvary's Session endorsed Silas Sheffer O'Neill to begin the ordination process to become a Minister of Word and Sacrament. Silas is discerning a path to chaplaincy in a medical setting. Silas is a seminarian at United Lutheran Seminary.
In 2025 Calvary's Session endorsed Cindy Kresge to begin the process of becoming a Commissioned Ruling Elder. Cindy is discerning a path to pastoral ministry.
